In the ten years since Robert Mapplethorpe's death there have been numerous exhibitions in both galleries and museums. The whiff of scandal and outrage often accompany the legacy of his unique and enduring vision.
This exhibition will show the progression of Mapplethorpe's art and sensibility from the student drawings and collages of the alte 60's right through to the exquisitely photographed and presented works of the 80's. Many of the works in this exhibition have never been published or shown. They will provide a unique and original perspective of the work of one of the most important artists of our time.
Some of the work may offend. However, it is impossible to survey Mapplethorpe's artistic career and omit the sexual imagery that he raised to the level of high art.
