‘Breasts’, curated by Carolina Pasti, will showcase the works of more than thirty emerging and established artists from around the world, spanning the fields of painting, sculpture, photography and film from the 1500s to the present day. The works in the exhibition explore how the breast has been understood and represented in art across different cultures and traditions. Reflecting on a range of themes from motherhood to empowerment, sexuality to body image and illness, the exhibition investigates how the breast acts as a catalyst to discuss socio-political realities, challenge historical traditions, and express personal and collective identities.
From the eye of a photographer highlighting the sensuality and softness of the breast to stronger and, at times, more unsettling paintings, different meanings and expressions identify each artist in the show focusing on bringing more consciousness and developing a deeper understanding of themes often neglected.
The exhibition’s mission is to showcase multicultural languages and promote awareness of breast cancer to a broader public through the channel of art.
Featured in the exhibition is Nobuyoshi Araki, 6x7 Shooting Back (GDN125), 2007, courtesy of Hamiltons Gallery, as well as Hamiltons’-exhibited Philippe Garner, Breast, 1976.
The exhibition is on view at ACP Palazzo Franchetti, from 17th April to 24th November 2024.
